Well, it's been confirmed again this year at the 2005 Grand
National Roadster Show (GNRS), that the California
Roadsters aren't show boaters.
We
were invited to participate again this year with a club
roadster display, and our five entries all picked up class
winner trophies.
Don Prieto suggested a black roadster
display in keeping with the Hollywood theme of the
show, but I think it’s because he had a black roadster.
In addition to Don's '32 Hiboy, were Dick Roseberry's '32
Hiboy and full-fendered '32 roadsters by Jerry Kugel, Doug
Lindow and Duane McKinney. Bernie Couch was in the main
hall, as an invited participant, and is still looking for his
gas cap.
There was agreement among the five members that participated
in this
year’s show, and the six members that displayed their
roadsters last year, that Thanks but No Thanks to a repeat
GNRS performance.
The show circuit guys are a different breed of rodders that must
need the ego gratification of picking up a trophy and seeing
their rod in a nice glossy program.
Now there are a few
guys in the club that haven't participated yet, so we may have
another year of enthusiasm left in us, but don't count on the
GNRS being a California Roadster tradition.
